She stood on her balcony with her back to her room, the moonlight shimmering off her green-black hair as tears streamed down her cheeks.  It wasn't fair!  To never be allowed to love...to have a family... She fell to her knees as she sobbed.  The beautiful burgundy velvet gown that her parents gave her just that evening flowed around her as she knelt on the night cooled stones.  What could she do?  Her heart already belonged to another, unknown to her parents, and they had already begun to make plans for their lives together.  Her dark red eyes glanced down to the gardens and rested upon his armored form.  He promised to be with her forever and to never let anything harm her.  Little did he know that she was going to be beyond his reach after all was said and done.

Turning away from the sight of him, she rests her back against the railing as she stares into her dark room.  There, on her nightstand rested the note she planned on leaving him, explaining that it wasn't her wish to leave him but her duty.  Her duty...how she hated that phrase.  All evening that is all she heard from her mother.  Her duty and what an honor it was to be chosen for it.  For her, it wasn't an honor but a curse.  All her friends had their lovers and were happy. That is all she wanted.

Moonlight glinted off something metallic on the floor.  Reaching out, she picked up the beautiful garnet encrusted dagger he had given her the night before as a promise gift.  He said that it was a present for her, a symbol of the promise to always be her protector.  But after tonight, it now meant nothing.  Taking it out of its sheath, she stared at the beautiful blade.  Turning around to look at the Moon, she raised the blade to her breast and held the tip there.  With a lone tear sliding down her cheek, she softly spoke his name before plunging the blade deep into her heart.

With a soft grunt, she let go of the handle as she collapses to the ground and blood starts to leak from the wound.  As her eyes slowly begin to dim in death, a bright light begins to glow from the gash.  The dagger was slowly being pushed out of her as the light became brighter, until it clattered to the stones and her dying body was engulfed by the pure white light.  The bloody wound had closed with barely a mark left behind as her prone body slowly began to rise.  Her red eyes glow as death loosens its grip on her and the radiance begins to change her body.  From the location of the wound a large red garnet jewel emerges from her body and floats just above her head.

The sight of the pure light attracts much attention as it seems to brighten the entire sky.  The love of her life looks up to her floating body helplessly as he is powerless to do anything.  Everyone knew what the meaning of that light meant, it is the power of the Moon and when that is sighted, no one should interfere.  Suddenly, the garnet began to circle her body until it was encased in a rose colored shell.  Her velvet gown was transformed into the white sailor fuku with the garnet colored bow at her breast. A black skirt wrapped around her slender waist before moving downwards to circle each of her legs. Simultaneously, a white ribbon rounded each arm to form her gloves before lacing around her neck and turning into black velvet with a simple garnet crystal hanging from it.  Lastly, the garnet slowed to a stop right before her face and lightly touched her brow burning the redness there where the circlet then formed.  It then hovered above her hand where the sacred Garnet Staff materialized.  Instinctively she reached out for it and held the cool metal tight.  Glancing to the door of her room, she saw her parents standing there proud as they watched her. Turning to the garden, she watched the small crowd that formed and began to cheer for the birth of the new Sailor Pluto.  But her eyes only saw him.  Saw the anguish and pain that washed over his face as he realized their dreams would never come true.  With the drop of her last tear, she raised her eyes to the Moon as she pounded her staff against the balcony stones and recited the words that seemed to speak on their own and she was transported to the Moon Kingdom where her life long mission would begin.

The Sailor Moon series is one I will always love but even though Sailor Pluto isn't my absolute favorite, her story is sad and just needs to be looked at closer. So this is my own little back story. A little bit sad, but then again, so is her life. Please enjoy.

EDIT: This was meant to be a one shot, but it may be expanded later. What do you think? Feedback welcomed.
